• Innovation, scientific research, and future technology were showcased to diplomats

Sharjah: The Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park) welcomed several diplomats from the GCC, Europe and Asia to its premises today to strengthen relations and forge cooperation in innovation, scientific research and use of technology. 

The forum was attended by Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Government Relations Department and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Digital Transformation in the Emirate of Sharjah; Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTI Park; Marwan Bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of (SHUROOQ) and a number of ambassadors, consuls, commercial attachés, and members of the Press.

At the beginning of the forum, Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, addressed key initiatives and achievements recently accomplished by the Sharjah Government as well as upcoming projects aimed at driving technology and innovation in the region.

Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTI Park, welcomed the distinguished guests and shared that the Park is designed according to the best practices and highest international standards in modern technology parks that is conducive to research, innovation and creativity.

Marwan Al Serkal, also shared an inspirational presentation celebrating the great accomplishments of SHUROOQ showcasing the outstanding commitment to attract investment to Sharjah.

Innovation culture

Al Mahmoudi gave a tour of the world-class facilities and services at the Park that various local and international companies, the government, and academia. He also shed light on SRTI's most prominent accomplishments, its future plans, the regional and international companies at SRTI Park, and their research projects that provide solutions and innovations in various fields.

SRTI Park has a special focus on water technology, environmental technology, renewable energy, transportation technology, information technology, industrial design and architecture, and other enterprises that promote innovation.

Al Mahoudi said SRTI Park plays an important role in creating a knowledge-based economy. “The SRTI Park is an important hub of regional and international development for future technologies. Our role is to link the efforts of the private sector, governmental bodies, and academic institutions to support scientific, applied and technological research to carry out investment activities and realise the UAE’s vision of a knowledge-based economy, based in best international practices,” he noted.

International cooperation

The high-level delegation were given a comprehensive tour of the Park where they saw the first 3D-printed fully-functional villa in the Middle East. They were also briefed on one of the biggest and most developed scientific research centres of smart transport in the world.  A Usky  or suspended transport system is currently being developed at the Park before it will be rolled out on a global scale. Food security was also highlighted during the visit as diplomats were shown the aquaponics farm at the Park that can produce tonnes of organic vegetables and fruits per month.

Al Mahmoudi said: "We are proud with our mission to intensify efforts and make SRTI Park an important hub of regional and international development for future technologies. Our role is to link the efforts of the private sector, governmental bodies, and academic institutions to support scientific, applied and technological research to carry out investment activities and realise the UAE’s vision of a knowledge-based economy."

Al Mahmoudi also underlined the need for further cooperation in local, national, regional and international platforms as he discussed about the incubator programme for start-ups and innovative businesses.
