Muscat: To attract tourists from all over the world, Oman plans to construct a landmark on the scale of Eiffel Tower.
The construction of this project is one of the key initiatives under the Sultanate’s plans to develop its tourism sector, as it aims to expand its economy, under the Tanfeedh programme for economic diversification, and was included in the 2019 annual report of the government’s Implementation, Support and Follow-up Unit, the body overseeing this expansion.
“With Oman increasingly finding itself in the international tourism spotlight, this initiative aims to create an iconic landmark that a global audience could associate directly with the Sultanate of Oman,” said the report. “Similar to landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the proposed landmark would also function as a destination to attract tourism into the country.
“The landmark will be incorporated as part of a larger mixed-use development to ensure commercial viability and sustainability,” added the organisation. “The team faced a challenge with project land location, therefore, an alternative location is required to be assigned for the iconic project.”
The report contains a list of initiatives and projects that the government added to its plans in 2019, to begin work on in order to expand the economy.
