Siemens Energy has secured a major contract from Roshn, a leading Saudi community developer backed by Public Investment Fund (PIF), to power more than 30,000 homes within its residential community in the capital.
Spread over a sprawling 20 million sq m area, Roshn’s Riyadh community comprises key amenities including shops, cafes, parks, schools, mosques and other leisure and entertainment facilities.
Roshn was officially launched last year by PIF with the aim to develop communities in major cities across the kingdom and help increase the rate of Saudi home ownership to 70% as well as support job creation within the next 10 years.
As per the contract, Siemens Energy will provide engineering, supply, construction, installation and commissioning services for the grid stations which will connect the residential community to the Saudi National Grid.
The company will be breaking ground on the project next month. The work is expected to be energised by May 2023 and completed by August the same year.
The grid project will boost transmission capacity and feed power to the new integrated urban community project, Riyadh.
On the contract win, Mahmoud Sulaimani, Managing Director of Siemens Energy in Saudi Arabia, said: "This will enable Siemens Energy to create more jobs for Saudi talents and provide homes to meet the needs of Saudi families."
"One of our main values as Siemens Energy is to care for the communities where we live and so it is an honour for us to be able to contribute to such a great project," he stated.
Mahmoud Hanafy, Vice President, Grid Stabilization, Middle East, said this project reiterates Siemens Energy's commitment to enable more resilient, reliable and greener power grids.
"We will help deliver electricity to this sustainable urban community, ensuring the safety, reliability and security of the power supplies to resident and visitors," stated Hanafy.
Due to the rapidly accelerating development plans, Saudi Arabia is emerging as one of the largest markets worldwide for power transmission and grid projects, he noted.
"The government is committed to invest in new infrastructure projects. Today, almost 30 per cent of the power transmitted in the kingdom relies on Siemens Energy’s technology," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
