His Majesty King Hamad had directed the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF), chaired by his representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to supervise the operation.
Shaikh Nasser said that the consignment represents Bahrain’s contribution to meeting the basic needs of thousands of Afghan families, particularly vulnerable people including women, children and the elderly.
RHF Secretary General Dr Mustafa Al Sayed also paid tribute to the King for his directives and humanitarian initiatives in favour of needy and disaster-stricken people.
He also praised the government’s support, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He praised efforts by Shaikh Nasser, as well as his support for the foundation to dispatch humanitarian aid to the Afghan people.
Dr Al Sayed also commended the supportive role of the Foreign Ministry, Health Ministry and BDF so that the consignment could be flown quickly to Afghanistan.
A delegation led by RHF acting assistant secretary general for planning and charity resources development Mohammed Al Awadhi and aid department chief Hani Al Ansari handed over the shipment.
The delegation conveyed greetings from the King as well as the government and people of Bahrain, wishing Afghanistan security, stability and peace.
The Afghan health minister welcomed Bahrain’s relief shipment which landed at Kabul airport , as Afghanistan goes through difficult times.
