This First Annual Conference Aims To Bring Together International Support And Expertise To Address Major Sustainability And Green Buildings Issues Facing Qatar

One of the leading international organisations in the green building movement, the US Green Building Council (USGBC), has signed up as a partner to next month's Qatar Green Building Conference.
A number of other high profile local and regional institutions will also attend the conference which is taking place on 27-28 April at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).
The two-day conference, which is being organised by Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), is committed to achieving Qatar's sustainability and green buildings aspirations through a collaborative and integrated approach with participation from leading national and global institutions.
QGBC supports QF's commitment to foster sustainable development by promoting environmentally-friendly practices for building design and development in a drive to promote Qatar's long-term sustainable development and the country's economic diversification to a knowledge-based economy.
The US Green Building Council is transforming the international building landscape in a number of ways, with one of its most recognised green building programmes being LEED, which certifies 1.5 million square feet of building space every day in 135 countries.
Other organisations that have signed up as partners to the Qatar conference include, the Middle East Facility Management Association (MEFMA), Qatar Society of Engineers, British Standards Institution (BSI), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), Engineers Australia Group Qatar, and the Pakistan Engineers Forum (PEF) in Qatar.
In recognition of the generous support of these organisations, Engineer Meshal Al Shamari, Director of QGBC, said: "Qatar Green Building Conference is a major step in the ongoing efforts by the State of Qatar to achieve the sustainability and environmental protection goals set for at Qatar National Vision 2030. Through a series of professional workshops at the conference, experts will address key sustainability topics around four themes including Future Sustainable Cities, Retrofitting Doha, Passivhaus in the Middle East North Africa Region, Carbon Footprinting and Qatar's National Vision.
