Plans are in full-swing to increase cyber security and protect Bahrain’s networks and infrastructures against online threats, said a top official yesterday.
Bahrain’s National Cybersecurity Centre chief executive Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa added that efforts are also underway to further ensure the development of an organisational structure for private data protection.
He was addressing a Press conference at the Isa Cultural Centre on the 2022-2026 Telecommunications, Information Technology and Digital Economy Strategy.“An emergency contingency plan is in the pipeline to protect networks from cyber threats while also recovering data that could possibly be lost,” said Shaikh Salman.
“In order to develop cyber security strategy it is critical to enhance monitoring and response to cyber threats as well as developing training programmes for Bahraini cadres and creating awareness programmes.
“We will also place basic and special indicators for vital sectors to increase their preparedness for cyber-attacks and threats.
”Shaikh Salman highlighted that several initiatives and projects will be carried out in the coming years following directives issued by Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and under his supervision.
Plans include enhancing protection for infrastructure as well as network security with regulations being prepared against threats and emergencies.
“Plans include emergency contingency strategy to recover from cyber-attacks while also conducting regular training for employees to ensure establishments are prepared against attacks of threats,” he added.
“We will also launch a National Cybersecurity Strategy which aims to provide a public electronic infrastructure in vital strategies while also implementing the best international practices in the cyber-security and increase international collaboration in the field.
“Work is underway to further develop national cadres in the field as well as a nation-wide campaign to monitor and register cyber threats while further developing legislation in the field.
”He stressed the importance of ensuring people that their personal data is kept private and protected further allowing the use of e-services across various platforms.
