Iraq will open a 400-bed hospital in Dhi Qar next week even as the country’s health infrastructure is under strain due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Abdulzahra Al- Hindawi, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Planning told Zawya that construction of Basra, Maysan and Karbala hospitals have made significant progress with Basra, which is 95 percent complete, on track to open by the end of 2021.
He said a committee, set up under the Minister of Planning Khaled Battal Al-Najm to address the problems of stalled hospital projects, recently discussed re-starting construction work at Wasit, Dujail and Al-Tuz hospital projects.
The committee also discussed the status of stalled hospital projects in Rusafa, Diwaniyah and Diyala, and the 200-bed Al-Hussainiya Hospital in Baghdad
Al- Hindawi said the committee also decided to expand its scope to include hospital projects under local governments.
