Iraqi Republic Railways (IRR), the OPEC member's national railway company, discussed the Karbala-Najaf monorail and other railway projects with Canada's Pacific Future Energy, an official of Iraq's transport ministry said.

The ministry's media director and spokesperson Faleh Hadi said IRR was represented by General Manager Talib Al-Husseini, adding that the transport minister Nasser Hussein Al-Shibli had recommended that IRR should partner with reputed international companies to develop economically feasible railway projects in Iraq.

He said the railway company has handed over damaged bridges in the Anbar Governorate for repair to the local government as part of its plans to restore Baghdad - Al Qaim - Akashat railway line.

Hadi noted that the project includes repair and re-construction of a total of seven railway bridges.
