•Members from Dubai Municipality, Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, Masdar and Dubai Supreme Council of Energy
Dubai - Further consolidating its ties with the UAE Government, the Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC), an independent forum aimed at conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices, has constituted a new Board Advisory Committee comprising senior representatives of government entities. This strategic move further aligns the operations of EmiratesGBC with the UAE National Agenda focused on sustainable development.
The initial Board Advisory Committee includes senior representatives of Ministry of Public Works, Dubai Municipality, Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, Masdar and Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. More members from government entities are expected to join later this year.
The committee will support EmiratesGBC's strategic approach to align with nation-wide activities to achieve the UAE's 'green vision' and the government's sustainable developmental priorities.
Saeed Al Abbar, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, said: "The formation of the new Board Advisory Committee is a landmark in the evolution of EmiratesGBC, which has achieved impressive strides in promoting a culture of sustainability, especially among the building industry stakeholders. We are thankful to the representatives of the various governmental entities who are part of the advisory committee and we look forward to their counsel which will further enable us to align our strategic goals and action plans in line with the government's vision. It will also help achieve a more tangible progress in the concerted efforts of EmiratesGBC and its members to promote sustainable built environments in the UAE.
"Over the years, EmiratesGBC has focused on supporting the 'green economy for sustainable development' vision announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. With governmental advisors on board, we will be able to articulate the UAE's vision for a greener future and implement initiatives that support all-round sustainability goals."
Al Abbar, who on behalf of EmiratesGBC has recently joined the World Green Building Council board, will leverage the recommendations of the newly constituted Board Advisory Committee to present the UAE's viewpoint and goals relating to sustainable built environments at international forums.
EmiratesGBC was formed in 2006 with the objective to support the UAE in its goal to be a global leader for sustainability in the built environment. It strives to influence policy and regulations and support the industry to promote best practice in the building and construction industry, and raise awareness on the importance of green building practices.
As part of its efforts in promoting sustainability, EmiratesGBC has also developed a suite of activities, including networking events, technical workshops and focus days as well as facilitated knowledge sharing sessions on specific issues related to the built-environment that meet the needs of its members, of the UAE community, and the wider Middle East.
