MANAMA: An urgent humanitarian relief shipment was flown from Bahrain last night to Afghanistan following royal directives issued by His Majesty King Hamad.

The first shipment, which contained medical supplies and food items, was inspected at Bahrain International Airport by His Majesty’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The essentials and medical supplies were provided by the Royal Humanitarian Fund (RHF) with efforts underway to continue the emergency relief aid to Afghanistan.

Solidarity

Shaikh Nasser reaffirmed Bahrain’s support for Afghanistan during their humanitarian crisis and stated it was part of the kingdom’s efforts towards achieving international solidarity and provide aid to those in need across the world.

Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani reaffirmed that the ministry will provide all necessary co-operation avenues with RHF to facilitate implementing His Majesty’s directives.

“Following His Majesty’s directives and under the leadership of Shaikh Nasser the foundation provided an urgent humanitarian relief shipment that contains food items and medical supplies,” said RHF secretary general Dr Mustafa Al Sayed.

“This was done in co-operation with the Bahrain Defence Force and the Ministries of Health and Foreign within efforts to provide the necessities and essentials to the Afghani people as soon as possible.

“Bahrain has always been and will continue to be one of the first countries to extend a helping hand to brothers and friends going through any humanitarian crisis.”
