Kuwait's housing authority has signed a number of contracts to begin work on a new housing development set to include around 28,363 new homes, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported on Sunday.
The Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) signed contracts worth 288 million Kuwaiti dinar ($953 million) with Italy's Salini Costruttori engineering company and Turkey's Kolin group to start construction on infrastructure at the South Al Mutlaa City development.
South Al Mutlaa City is the largest housing project ever in Kuwait, according to KUNA, and will consist of 12 suburbs of 28,363 housing units. Located 40 km northwest of Al Jahra City, the new urban area will be home to around 400,000 residents and include 116 schools, 156 mosques, 48 mini markets, 12 public health centres and three specialised clinics, the state news agency said.
The housing authority also signed a five-year contract worth around $77.8 million with the American firm Hill International for the management of the project going forward.
Approximately 60 tenders for construction, including public utilities and power plants, will be tendered over the coming years, with the first license expected to be issued in December 2018, KUNA said.
