RIYADH - The Royal Saudi Air Defense Force (RSADS) intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired by the Yemeni Houthi militia towards Jazan city, southwest Saudi Arabia, on Saturday evening.
The launching of the missile from Sa'da governorate, north Yemen, was detected at 20:17, local time, and the missile was timely destroyed without resulting in any casualties, spokesman of the Saudi-led coalition to restore legitimacy in Yemen Col. Staff Turki Al-Maliki said in a press release.
The attack targeted civilians in populated areas in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, he affirmed.
Such terrorist acts by the Iranian-backed militia prove once again the persistence of the Yemeni militia and the Iranian regime in their attempts to destabilize Saudi Arabia and the region.
They continue defying the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the international humanitarian law, thus putting in jeopardy the regional and international security and peace, Col. Al-Maliki added.
The attack took to 199 the total number of ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi militia towards Saudi Arabia since the start of the Yemeni conflict in March 2015.
The missile attacks led to 112 deaths among the citizens and foreign residents in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. (end) mdm.gb
