A Dutch developer is set to join a growing list of companies offering the latest craze in Dubai real estate... luxury floating homes.

New Living on Water (NLW) will launch a range of floating residences at the Cityscape Global property exhibition in Dubai next month.

The Netherlands-based firm is aiming to generate sales of $50 million in the first 12 months, rising to $100 million per year after that, it said in a press statement on Wednesday.

"The need for some privacy and the inner need of being connected to nature has always been with us," NLW's managing director and co-owner, Menno de Roos, was quoted as saying.

"Our newly-developed floating residences guarantee both the privacy and nature that people are looking for," he added.

NLW is not the first company to launch a floating home concept in Dubai. Kleindienst, a Dubai-based developer working on projects on The World manmade island development, last year launched the Floating Seahorse range.

The homes include an upper living area above the ground and an underwater sleeping area where owners can view the surrounding coral and marine life.

Designed, engineered and built in the United Arab Emirates, the Floating Seahorses are now under production, are priced at 12 million dirhams ($3.2 million) and the first home is due to be completed in October 2016.

Government-backed developer Dubai Properties Group (DPG), also stated in May it had started construction on a new waterfront project which will include a 12 kilometre promenade, floating restaurants, waterside homes and marinas.

The Marasi Business Bay project will be located near the Dubai Canal and will include residential units built on the water and accessible by yacht

The majority of the work is due to be finished by 2020 and the entire development is scheduled to be completed by 2023.
