UAE - As the UAE's national vaccination programme powers on towards its goal of inoculating at least 50 per cent of the eligible population by the end of March, health authorities in the country are continuing to bust misconceptions related to vaccines.

Dr Farida Al Hosani, official spokesperson for the UAE Health Sector, noted that some members of the public are refusing to take the vaccine in the hopes of achieving a "normal immunity after infection".

"This is completely wrong because their infection with the virus puts their life at grave stake," she said, adding, "To have an advance protection by the vaccine is much safer."

The three vaccines, approved in the UAE, are manufactured in different ways, she stated, reiterating that the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine has been proven to be "100 per cent effective" in providing protection against Covid-19 complications.

"However, they are all safe, and effective in stimulating the body to produce antibodies that protect it against infection from Covid-19."
