Work is moving at a steady pace on the new Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre project which is now 54 per cent completed, said a statement from the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.

The project, which is coming up on a 309,000-sq-m area in Sakhir, will boast 10 state-of-the-art exhibition halls spanning a total 95,000-sq-m area, ideal for hosting international events and exhibitions in addition to the 4,500-sq-m main conference centre that has a capacity for 4,000 people.

The concrete works are almost done at the expo facility while internal road works, paving and sewage networks are nearing completion.

"More than 99% of the total concrete works have been done. The final touches are being given to internal road works, paving, sewage networks, rainwater drainage, and electricity," said Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf after an inspection visit to the project site.

He was accompanied by Assistant Undersecretary for Construction and Maintenance Projects Shaikh Mishal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and other officials.

The new center contains exhibition, conference and meeting halls designed to host various events and celebrations with storage spaces, separate exits and entrances for each hall, and equipped with the latest technology, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
