Iraq's Ministry of Transport is planning to re-instate train services between Kirkuk and southern provinces, a government official told Zawya Projects.

Fatuma Al-Musawi, director of media Department and government communication for the Ministry of Transportation said the Ministry, represented by the Iraqi Republic Railways is in talks with the Ministry of Industry to resume the rehabilitation of Al-Fatha Bridge in Kirkuk.

The industry ministry is responsible for the reconstruction of the war-damaged bridge across the Tigris River.

She said the reconstruction of the bridge would enable the Iraqi railway company to reinstate passenger and cargo train services between the northern Kirkuk governorate and the southern governorates.

Al-Mousawi added that during the meeting, it was agreed to form a joint technical committee between the two parties for the purpose of conducting a structural evaluation to determine the percentage of damage and to take appropriate measures to resume the bridge reconstruction.
