How will technological advances change the way we grow and consume food in a world increasingly focused on sustainability? This is the central question being discussed by leading figures and companies in the agri-tech and food sector during ‘In the Future, What will we Eat?’ hosted by the UK Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai from 14-20th February, under the UK’s participation theme ‘Innovating for a Shared Future’.

From food security and agri-tech to eliminating waste and feeding the world, the event promises to proactively seek solutions for a more sustainable future. The programme will include a series of online Summit sessions, coinciding with Gulfood, taking place between 13-17th February, where key speakers will discuss issues around how we grow, consume and provide food for a sustainable future. A two-day food festival, open to the general public will then showcase the very best of the UK food and drink industry from 19-20th February.

Laura Faulkner OBE, UK Commissioner for Expo 2020 Dubai, says: “With the world’s population set to increase further in the coming decades, smarter and sustainable solutions will be key to relieving the pressure on the global food supply chain. Innovation coming out of the UK in the agri-tech and food security spaces will play a central role in delivering a sustainable future, so I’m excited to see and hear the ideas, innovations and solutions covered during the programme.”

On 17th February, speakers in a series of online Summit panel discussions will consider topics such as food security, feeding the world without destroying the planet and eliminating waste. To attend the Summit sessions, please register online.

Speakers for the sessions include Professor Gideon Henderson, Chief Scientific Adviser, DEFRA, Professor David Lloyd, Director, ZERO2FIVE Food Industry Centre at Cardiff Metropolitan University, Dan Watson, Co-Founder and CEO, SafetyNet Technologies Ltd and Professor Chris Elliott OBE, Professor of Food Safety, Founder of the Institute for Global Food Safety, Queen’s University Belfast.

The UK Food and Drink Festival, curated in collaboration with DEFRA, is a celebration of the UK’s culinary excellence, allowing visitors to experience the delights of seafood, cheese and plant-based snacks. A 0% bar will also showcase the UK’s world-leading alcohol-free sector, with limited-edition drinks served up by master mixologists

UK food and drink is recognised internationally for its innovative approach, great taste and exceptional quality, which has been on show at the 1851 Restaurant and Bar throughout Expo 2020 Dubai. Visitors to the festival will be able to try complimentary samples from 15+ exciting brands from all around the UK, including Glenarm, Loch Fyne, PeaPops, Eat Real, Belvoir and Fever-Tree. Michelin-starred chef and Official Ambassador for the GREAT Britain and Northern Ireland campaign, Vineet Bhatia will also be onsite during the festival.
