Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain: The historic relations bonding the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of India have been highlighted recently during the the weekly/monthly regular lunch meeting of the Rotary Club of Manama (RCM).

Held at the Gulf Hotel for the first time in the new Rotary Year 2021-2022, the meeting hosted Indian Ambassador to the Kingdom HE Mr. Piyush Srivastava, as well as RCM members, headed by President Ms. Roaya Baqer, guests and dignitaries.

During the meeting, HE the Ambassador delivered a speech, in which he expressed appreciation to RCM for inviting him and also shed light on the deep-rooted Bahraini-Indo relations, underlining the significance of the year 2021 for the bilateral ties between both countries as it marks the Golden Jubilee of establishing diplomatic relations.

Mr. Srivastava’s speech addressed a number of topics of mutual interests, which are Indian-Bahraini bilateral relations, COVID situation in India and the joint cooperation in this regard, and opportunities available for increased bilateral trade and investment between both countries.

“The two countries have had excellent collaboration in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, be it the support of the Government of Bahrain for medical and other care of the Indian community, facilitating their repatriation by ‘Vande Bharat Mission’, the ‘Air Bubble’ arrangement both countries for facilitating travel of people of both sides, Bahrain’s supply of oxygen and medical equipment to India, and the supply of medicines, vaccines and facilitating travel of doctors and paramedics to the Kingdom by India,” HE the Ambassador said.

By the end of his speech, Mr. Srivastava thanked RCM for contributing to the Indian community’s efforts in helping the Indian people during the second wave of the pandemic in India, and invited the Club members and the guests to be part of this journey and take the bilateral relations between India and the Kingdom of Bahrain to greater heights.

On her part, RCM President Ms. Roaya Baqer thanked HE the Ambassador and his esteemed wife Ms. Monica Srivastava for attending the Club’s meeting, and expressed gratitude to future enhancements of bilateral relations. The President also lauded Mr. Srivastava’s exceptional efforts in bolstering ties bonding both countries on all levels. 

RCM forms part of Rotary International, which is the world’s first service club organisation and includes over 1.2 million members worldwide. Since its inception in 1965, RCM members have been actively participating and organising key community initiatives and projects, aiming to contribute towards societal needs and make a valuable addition to the development of the community.
