The Commissioner General of the Morocco Pavilion has unveiled the broad outlines of Morocco’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai. This edition, the first World Expo to be organised in the MEASA (Middle East, Africa and South Asia) region, will take place over a six-month period from 1st October 2021 to 31st March 2022.

A total of 191 participating countries will join together to consider the world of the future, opening a new chapter in history at Expo 2020 Dubai. Morocco will be there to share its ambitious vision of a sustainable future, thus contributing to the worldwide collaborative effort to spur a post-Covid economic recovery.

This participation expresses the unconditional commitment and mobilisation of Morocco to face global challenges, as His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, in the Royal Address to participants of Expo Milan 2015, during the celebration ceremony for the National Day of Morocco and the official inauguration of the Kingdom’s Pavilion:

“Morocco reaffirms its will to contribute to the efforts undertaken in the face of major universal challenges that must be addressed with a realistic vision and the determination to meet all current and future issues.”

Expo 2020 Dubai represents a formidable scientific, industrial, technological and cultural showcase for the Kingdom. The Morocco Pavilion’s theme, “Legacies for the future—from inspiring origins…to sustainable progress”, will invite visitors to (re)discover the Kingdom, along with its history, identity, tangible achievements and vision for the future.

Imagined as an invitation to reinforce international cooperation in order to address today’s global challenges and to better prepare for the future, the overall theme chosen by Dubai is particularly relevant: “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. This theme is divided into three sub-topics — “Opportunity”, “Mobility”, “Sustainability”— represented by three eponymous districts that will be home to the exhibition’s pavilions. The Morocco Pavilion will be located in the Opportunity District, in proximity to the host country’s pavilion.

“It is our dynamism and the power of our commitment that we wish to present to the world, by showing a Morocco that is beyond the limits of our imagination…”, affirms Mrs. Nadia Fettah Alaoui, Commissioner General of Morocco at Expo 2020 Dubai.

As part of Expo’s legacy, the Morocco Pavilion will remain after the event in the heart of Dubai’s District 2020, a model human-centric global community for the future that will evolve from Expo 2020.

INSIGHTS ON MOROCCO’S PARTICIPATION AT EXPO 2020 DUBAI

An ancestral Morocco committed to future generations

In Dubai, Morocco will be on display through its ancestral, national, and cultural heritage, as well as its skills and singular talents, all promising hope for a better future. The pavilion represents the opportunity to meet Moroccans and appreciate their values, and will offer to millions of expected visitors the chance to marvel at the youth and dynamism of this country, as well as its capacity to build, to innovate, to meet challenges and to invest in sustainable logics of development and peace. Morocco has historically and perpetually re-invented itself, grounded in a lasting and sustainable vision for the benefit of future generations, and it is this Morocco that will be present in Dubai.

The pavilion of ALL Moroccans, in a privileged location

The Morocco Pavilion will belong to all Moroccans, and social networks are even now sharing a rich programme of participative content to raise their awareness.  From 1st October 2021 and throughout the Expo, unprecedented measures will be put in place, including a rich artistic and cultural programme, which will engage the broad Moroccan public from home and abroad.

The Morocco Pavilion enjoys a place of privilege on the site of Expo 2020 Dubai, at the heart of the Opportunity District, near the host country’s Pavilion, and not far from the central focal point of the site, Al Wasl Plaza. By ancestral traditions of earth construction, the pavilion’s architecture and technical achievements place it steadfastly in the 21st century, whose major issues are sustainability and the reduction of our environmental footprints.

With a covered area of 3500 m2, the Morocco Pavilion proposes a stunning experience that is at once informative, immersive, and participative. The exhibition visit is designed as a stroll around the central patio, which leads to 13 rooms on 7 levels, each presenting a unique environment: a scenographic experience of didactic scope and an inspirational artistic experience, presented in an attractive and interactive manner that engages the body as well as the mind.  The Morocco Pavilion will also house a conference room, B2B space, VIP lounge, gastronomic restaurant, street food vendor, tea shop, and a boutique.

Cultural programming that reflects the artistic effervescence of the Kingdom

For six months, Morocco will offer a cultural and artistic programme in the heart of its pavilion as well as at various other central sites of Expo 2020 Dubai. This programme will include exhibitions, performances, spectacles, concerts, entertainment, and shows that celebrate the cultural diversity of all regions of the Kingdom. Many highlights are to be expected, culminating in the National Day of Morocco, on 26th December 2021, when the country shall be honoured.  For this occasion, the Kingdom will roll out a particularly festive and inclusive programme. National Day will allow visitors to immerse themselves in the culture and artistic effervescence of the country.

Economic and scientific programming that reflects Morocco’s image and development dynamic

Whether within its pavilion or at other Expo 2020 Dubai spaces, Morocco proposes a diverse programme of conferences, workshops, and meeting events around unifying themes that address the great challenges of our era, such as innovation, environmental responsibility, climate change, the cities of the future, sustainable agriculture…  This programming is the opportunity for the Kingdom to share its ambitious vision, to focus upon its tangible accomplishments, and to share its particular know-how with Expo visitors and participants.

An impactful business experience

As a unique global exchange platform, Expo 2020 Dubai, also favours the creation and reinforcement of partnerships, access to new markets, and investment development. Equipped with a dedicated VIP lounge, gastronomic restaurant, and event spaces, the Morocco Pavilion will be a privileged area for B2B exchanges and events among institutional and economic decision-makers from all parts of the world.
