Dubai, United Arab Emirates: The laboratory of Hatta Hospital was accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) after passing the latter’s rigorous onsite inspections and evaluation procedures.
This accomplishment highlights the high standard of patient-centric care provided by the laboratory department and the hospital as a whole.
The CAP accreditation process is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients; the CAP inspectors examined the Laboratory Department’s records and quality control procedures.
They also studied the qualifications of the laboratory staff, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
Hatta Hospital is a 123-bed multi-specialty hospital located in Hatta City Centre. The modern two-storey health facility occupies an area of 10,430 square meters near the new Sha’biah in Hatta.
The hospital serves patients from Hatta and nearby towns such as Huwaylat, Minayeh, Masfout, Mazarieh, Madam, Shwaib and some parts of the Sultanate of Oman.
Following this year’s successful accreditation, His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, said: “Ensuring health facilities are internationally accredited is an important aspect of our Dubai Health Strategy. We have achieved a big leap in the number of health facilities that are internationally accredited. Currently, 96 per cent of hospitals in Dubai have completed their international accreditation, which is a significant jump from 80 per cent in 2015.
“Benchmarking our services to ensure uniformity in terms of excellence of health service is important for patient safety and for delivery of high-quality health services. Thus, seeking international accreditations is necessary to constantly meet high-quality international standards of healthcare.”
Al Qutami added during his inspectional tour of Hatta Hospital that the hospital provides immediate medical care to the population in and around Hatta ensuring access to high quality medical services for the population.
Dr. Saif Abdulla Bin Lewali, CEO of Hatta Hospital, said: “ Since the establishment of the hospital in 2010, we have continuously expanded our services year-on-year with an aim to provide comprehensive and specialized services to the people living in the vicinity and in nearby towns. Our aim is to provide patients with easy access to high-quality health care.”
Almost 96 per cent of the hospitals in Dubai are internationally accredited. In terms of DHA health facilities, all 11 DHA Primary Health Centres have international accreditations. In 2016, DHA hospitals and health centres received an international accreditation for the fourth time in a row. Latifa Hospital, Dubai Hospital and Rashid Hospital earned Joint Commission International’s Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital Accreditation and Thalassemia Centre earned Joint Commission International’s ( JCIs) Gold Seal of Approval for Ambulatory Care Accreditation for the fourth time in a row. About the Dubai Health Authority:
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) was created, in June 2007, by Law 13 issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, with an expanded vision to include strategic oversight for the complete health sector in Dubai and enhance private sector engagement. His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance is the President of the DHA and His Excellency Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qutami is the Director-General of the DHA.
The DHA’s aim in Dubai is to provide an accessible, effective and integrated healthcare system, protect public health and improve the quality of life within the Emirate. This is a direct translation of the objectives of the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015 launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Keeping the strategic plan in mind, the DHA’s mission is to ensure access to health services, maintain and improve the quality of these services, improve the health status of nationals, residents and visitors and oversee a dynamic, efficient and innovative health sector.
In addition to overseeing the health sector for the Emirate of Dubai, the DHA also focuses on providing services through DHA healthcare facilities including hospitals (Latifa, Dubai, Rashid and Hatta), specialty centres (e.g. the Dubai Diabetes Center) and DHA primary health centres spread throughout the Emirate of Dubai.
The main pillars of service delivery at DHA health facilities are quality, efficiency, patients and staff. It is our aim to maintain and improve the quality and efficiency of DHA health services. An important aspect of the service delivery strategy is to focus on patients, their needs and satisfaction as well as attract, retain, nurture and support outstanding staff.
Prior to the establishment of the DHA, the Department of Health and Medical Services (DOHMS), which was established in 1973, was the functioning authority that almost exclusively focused on health service delivery.
