Manama, AGU: As the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) continues to remotely hold the discussions of theses and dissertations, utilising the latest audio-visual technologies, Researcher Muneera Theyab Al Nuaimi was recently awarded the PhD degree in Innovation from the University after discussing her research titled "High Performance Work System and Product Innovation… A Field Study in the Banking Sector".

In her research, Ms. Al Nuaimi aimed to study the impact of high performance work systems on product innovation through the organisational climate and employees' innovative work behaviour in the banking sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Ms. Al Nuaimi followed a combined research method in her study; as she developed questionnaires and conducted semi-organised interviews to verify the results of the questionnaires.

The research, which sampled a total of 1,215 executives of the middle management in several retail and Islamic banks in Bahrain, showed that the high performance work system has a positive impact on product innovation, innovative work  behaviour and organisational climate.

Conducted under the supervision of AGU's Innovation Department Professor Dr Soud Al Mahamid, Statistics Professor at AGU Dr Ahmed Jaradat and Economic Expert Dr Abdulla Al Sadiq, the study recommended that the banking sector dedicates more interest and attention to the organisational climate and innovative work behaviour, with the aim of developing unique and innovative products that meet the needs of local clients.
