There are 1,421 active cases of Covid-19 in Bahrain, with 71 new cases confirmed yesterday.
Of yesterday’s new cases, 51 were detected among migrant workers and 19 among individuals who came in contact with positive cases, while one was unspecified.
The Health Ministry also revealed that 47 people were yesterday discharged from isolation and treatment facilities, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 1,160.
This means Bahrain has so far recorded a combined 2,589 cases of the coronavirus, including 1,421 active cases, 1,160 recoveries and eight deaths.
The ministry added that a total of 110,407 tests have been conducted in Bahrain until last night.
It comes after Bahrain recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases in a single day on Friday.
The ministry announced 301 cases on Friday that included 212 migrant workers, 63 individuals who came in close contact with positive cases, 14 cases among those who returned from abroad and 12 were unspecified.
During an international webinar on Covid-19 hosted yesterday it was revealed that Bahrain was conducting 6,000 tests a day.
“Labour camps are still a challenge and are a hot zone in relation to the spread of Covid-19 and we are conducting 6,000 tests daily across the country,” said BDF Hospital infectious diseases consultant and microbiologist and National Taskforce for Combating Covid-19 member Lieutenant Colonel Dr Manaf Al Qahtani.
“There are 45 volunteers helping us conduct tests while there are 65 personnel from the Interior Ministry supporting us in the tracing process.”
Meanwhile, 54 Bahraini students were evacuated from Moscow yesterday under the government’s repatriation programme.
The flight was organised by Bahrain’s Embassy in Russia, with Ambassador Ahmed Al Saati supervising the operation which included students from across Russia transferred back home.
