MANAMA: Stronger education, trade and investment ties between Bahrain and India were discussed as the Bahrain India Society’s (BIS) new board met Indian Ambassador Piyush Srivastava.

The envoy highlighted renewable energy, pharmaceutical production, IT data centres, agro processing, logistics, tourism and infrastructure as high growth sectors in which the two countries could mutually grow.

Mr Srivastava also emphasised the importance of BIS working with the Economic Development Board, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry.

BIS chairman Abdul Rahman Juma highlighted several initiatives undertaken by the society to foster a closer relationship in economic, cultural, sports and scientific spheres.

He also presented a letter to Mr Srivastava, addressed to Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman endorsing a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement between Bahrain and India.

Also present at the meeting from the BIS were founding chairman Abdulnabi Alshoála, vice-chairman P S Balasubramanyam, general secretary Zahra Taher, treasurer Vijay Boloor as well as board members Mohammed AlKhaja, Kishore Kewalram, Harish Gopinath, Talal Al Mannai, Soman Baby and Vinod Das.

Indian Embassy second secretary and head of chancery Ravi Kumar Jain was also present.
