MANAMA: VIVA Bahrain, now known as stc Bahrain, has made investments of BD700 million ($1.82 billion) in infrastructure and resources in the country since its launch in 2010, the telecom firm’s top official has said.

Nezar Banabeela, chief executive of stc Bahrain, told the GDN yesterday that the company continues “to invest in next-generation technologies and service the varied needs of customers with innovative products and solutions”.

He was speaking during the unveiling of the firm’s new corporate identity at The Ritz-Carlton Bahrain.

The launch of stc Bahrain coincided with Saudi-based stc group’s launch of its new corporate identity, which officials said “represents the next step in its evolution to become the regional digital champion that offers a unified customer experience under one brand”.

VIVA Cash, the company’s mobile wallet, has become stc pay with a wider ecosystem of fintech services.

Mr Banabeela said the rebranding will contribute to achieving the company’s vision of leading Bahrain’s digital transformation.

“We are excited about the new future ahead of us and the opportunities that it has to offer. Together with stc group, we are committed to bring greater dimension and richness to Bahrain’s social and economic development as we continue to advance Bahrain’s digital future.

“We will focus on growth in new unconventional paths, and digital solutions that enrich the lives of customers, as well as innovative services and products that enable the business sector to operate more effectively and economically,” he added.

Talking about the success achieved by the company over the last 10 years in Bahrain, Mr Banabeela said it has connected 1m customers through different services across the country and has garnered the largest market share.

“As the fastest-growing and the most innovative telecom operator in the kingdom, stc Bahrain will continue to break boundaries in order to enrich all aspects of our customers’ personal and professional lives.”

As a part of its new identity launch celebration, stc Bahrain is introducing limited period exclusive offers including international roaming without any fees charged to customers traveling to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Also, stc Bahrain postpaid and prepaid customers can benefit from free calls when calling Saudi Arabia and Kuwait under a special limited time offer.

VIVA Bahrain, now stc Bahrain, was the first local telecom company in the kingdom to offer speeds of up to 42 Mbps for broadband subscribers and the first company to officially launch the 4G LTE and providing the largest 4G network infrastructure in Bahrain.

Ranked first in quality of services by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority for several years, the company says it was the first to launch a 5G network in the kingdom.

This was part of its ongoing initiatives to become the leading digital enabler for various industries contributing to Economic Vision 2030.

Local, regional and global breakthroughs have earned stc Bahrain over 20 awards in just nine years, among them being chosen the best, widest and fastest network that connects people with an empowering host of products and services.

Mr Banabeela said under its corporate social responsibility arm, Jusoor, the company will continue to uplift Bahrain’s local community through various development and sustainability programmes to promote equality and empowerment across different fields such as education, sports, health, culture and environment.

“As a world-class digital leader providing innovative services and platforms to customers in the Mena region, the brand evolution reiterates stc’s vision of leading the change and paving the way into the future for generations to come.”
