BRUSSELS- German healthcare group Siemens Healthineers has offered concessions in a bid to secure EU antitrust approval for its $16.4 billion acquisition of U.S. peer Varian Medical Systems.

Siemens, which announced the deal to create the global leader in cancer care in August last year, put in its offer on Jan. 29, according to a European Commission filing which did not provide further details.

The EU competition enforcer is now expected to seek feedback from rivals and customers before deciding whether to accept the concessions, demand more, or open a full-scale investigation.

It set a Feb. 19 deadline for its ruling during the preliminary review.

Healthineers was spun off and floated in 2018 by Siemens as part of a broader overhaul of its conglomerate structure to create room for its business units to do their own deals.
