Oman and Italy have agreed to strengthen bilateral collaboration in renewable energy sector with a specific focus on green hydrogen market and projects.

H E Salim al Aufi, Undersecretary of Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals, and Manlio Di Stefano, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, had a meeting on Tuesday on the occasion of Stefano’s visit to Muscat.

The meeting was a follow up to a joint bilateral dialogue that was inaugurated online by the two undersecretaries on September 29 in the presence of major Omani and Italian players in the development of technologies for green hydrogen production and its related industry with the goal to explore opportunities for a stronger cooperation.

‘The two parties reviewed the existing cooperation in the energy sector and agreed on the opportunity to further strengthen the bilateral collaboration in the field of renewable energies with a specific focus on green hydrogen,’ a joint statement issued by H E Aufi and Stefano said.

In the framework of the excellent relations between Oman and Italy, the two undersecretaries shared the willingness to promote and develop cooperation in the field of green energy for the mutual benefit and in line with the efforts envisaged by both Oman Vision 2040 and the European Green Deal, both aimed at contributing to the global targets for emission cuts.

As per the joint statement, the two undersecretaries shared the view that the collaboration between Oman and Italy in the green energy field can support the ambition to ensure a safe, competitive and sustainable energy market.

‘In this regard, they agreed to support institutional, industrial and academic collaborations between the two countries related to green hydrogen, supporting the exchange of best practices on energy policies, as well as stimulating closer connections between universities, scientific research institutions and the private sector of both countries,’ the statement added.
