Cairo – The Egyptian Tax Authority denied news reports about imposing value-added tax (VAT) on medicines and substances used in their manufacture, Akhbar El-Yom reported on Monday.

All locally-manufactured and imported medicines and active ingredients are exempt from the VAT since the issuance of the law no. 67 of 2016.

The tax regulator called on distributors and manufacturers of medicines not to collect sales taxes which have been cancelled upon the introduction of the VAT law.
