MANAMA: Bahrain’s national origin exports for the second quarter of this year (April to June) amounted to BD540 million, decreasing by nine per cent compared with BD595m for the same period of the previous year, shows the latest report from the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA).

The report that includes data on balance of trade, imports, exports and re-exports (national origin), said that the top 10 trading partners accounted for 74pc of the value of the kingdom’s national origin exports with the remaining 26pc claimed by other countries.

Saudi Arabia was the top importer of Bahraini products, with a value of BD109m, followed by the UAE with BD51m and the US in third place with BD43m, the iGA said.

Unwrought aluminium (not alloyed) emerged as the top product exported from Bahrain with a value of BD101m followed by unwrought aluminium alloys with a value of BD100m and agglomerated iron ores and concentrates in third place accounting for BD66m.

The report found that the value of re-exports decreased by 20pc to BD143m during the quarter when compared with BD180m for the same quarter of the previous year, with the top 10 trading partners accounting for 93pc of the re-exported value.

Saudi Arabia was the leading market for re-exports from Bahrain accounting for a value of BD61m, followed by the UAE with BD24m and China coming third with BD18m.

Four-wheel drive cars emerged as the top product re-exported from Bahrain with a value of BD30m, followed by parts for aeroplanes in second place netting BD14m and cigarettes containing tobacco in third place with BD9m.

The report said value of imports decreased by 8pc reaching BD1.168 billion during the quarter compared with BD1.267bn for the same period of the previous year with the top 10 trading partners accounting for 67pc of the imports value.

According to the report, China was ranked as the top exporter to Bahrain with BD194m, followed by Saudi Arabia with BD79.1m and Brazil in third place with BD79m.

Aluminium oxide emerged as the top product imported into Bahrain with a value of BD79m while non-agglomerated iron and concentrates was the second most imported at BD75m and four-wheel drive cars in third place with BD43m.

The trade balance, or the difference between exports and imports, amounted to a deficit of BD485m, versus BD492m for the same quarter of the previous year, an improvement by 1pc.
