European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde largely dodged a question about turmoil in French financial markets on Friday, merely saying the ECB would deliver on its inflation target.

"I'm not going to comment on domestic political situations," she said in response to a question about using an ECB emergency bond-buying scheme to help France, which has seen its financial assets fall since a snap parliamentary election was called.

"I will simply say that it is the duty of the European Central Bank to deliver on its mandate and to keep inflation under control and back to target."
