KUWAIT - The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health has launched bivalent COVID-19 vaccination for individuals 18 years of age and older at 15 medical centers, starting from today (Wednesday).
The bivalent COVID-19 vaccines are boosters that aim at keeping better protection against the original virus strain and a component of the Omicron variant, the ministry said in a press statement.
People can get vaccinated with the new booster at least a couple of months after the last vaccine dose, be it the second shot or the booster, regardless of the type of vaccines, the ministry added.
The bivalent booster is primarily intended to provide broad protection against the existing virus variants in general and Omicron strain in particular, and to boost the effectiveness of previous shots, it noted.
COVID-19 vaccines can help protect against severe illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19, the ministry said, warning that the virus mutates and immunity naturally decreases over time.
