The Electricity and Water Affairs Ministry has signed an agreement with ABB Company to instal five 360-kilowatt charging stations for electric vehicles in strategic locations across the kingdom.The move is among steps taken by the ministry to provide charging infrastructure and technologies for electric vehicles.Minister Yasser Humaidan, who signed the agreement, stressed the importance of strengthening effective partnership between public and private sectors and integrating efforts that would develop various services for citizens, and contribute to diversifying economic tributaries and achieving qualitative goals in vital sectors, especially energy services.

He also emphasised the importance of encouraging and raising awareness among citizens and residents about adopting and including electric vehicles within a lifestyle that is in line with the global shift towards sustainable and low-carbon mobility solutions.

Mr Humaidan indicated that the project will contribute to strengthening the path towards achieving the national goals announced by the kingdom at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) to reach zero neutrality by 2060 and reduce carbon emissions by 30 per cent by 2035.He said that the ministry is working on an integrated strategy to support sustainable mobility solutions in the kingdom, adding that one of the most important objectives of the strategy is to develop policies, regulations and infrastructure required for charging electric vehicles.
