Tokyo stocks rose Wednesday for the fourth straight trading day, buoyed by buying of technology, reported Kyodo News.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 506.07 points, or 1.26 percent, from Tuesday at 40,580.76.

The broader Topix index finished 15.56 points, or 0.54 percent, higher at 2,872.18, its highest finish since 29th December 1989.

On the top-tier Prime Market, gainers were led by machinery, marine transportation, and consumer credit issues.
