China's foreign ministry said Friday it "deeply" mourned the death of ex-premier Li Keqiang, Beijing's first public comment on the former number two official's passing.

"We deeply mourn the tragic passing of Comrade Li Keqiang due to a sudden heart attack," foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a regular briefing, adding "an obituary will be published soon".
