(TAP) - The World Bank (WB) will keep supporting Tunisia in the energy and renewable energy field, WB Country Manager for Tunisia Tony Verheijen said at a meeting held with Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines Salwa Sghaier.

In this vein, he pointed out the WB's funding of the preliminary studies of the electricity interconnection project between Tunisia and Italy, notably the underwater part of this project, by means of $12 millions.

Besides, he recalled the $151-million fund dedicated to finance the measures taken by the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) to strengthen the country's electricity transmission system, integrate the locally produced renewable energy and improve its trade performances.

For her part, the minister laid emphasis on the importance of the WB's support to the STEG, affirming the need to boost investment in the renewable energy field so as to reach the country's energy security.
