Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) announced on Wednesday that it has issued Request for Proposals (RFP) to prequalified companies and consortiums for the 1,500-megawatt (MW) Al Ajban Solar Photovoltaic Independent Power Plant (Al Ajban Solar PV IPP) project, located in Ajban in the Abu Dhabi emirate.
A total of 43 companies and consortiums submitted EOIs, while 19 companies and consortiums qualified for the RFP stage after submitting Statements of Qualification.
The deadline for RFP submission wasn't disclosed.
Othman Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer of EWEC said Al Ajban Solar PV, together with already operational 1,200MW Noor Abu Dhabi and under construction 2,000 MW Al Dhafra Solar PV, will increase Abu Dhabi’s solar power generation capacity to more than 4 gigawatts reducing carbon emissions by approximately 6 million metric tonnes per year while supporting UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative as well as UAE Energy Strategy 2050.
