Saudi-listed ACWA Power Company announced on Thursday that the 100 megawatts (MW) central tower at its Noor Energy 1 project in Dubai has started commercial operation from 20 February 2023.
The central tower is part of the 950 MW solar Independent Power Project (IPP), Phase 4 of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Solar Park in Dubai, and has been billed as the world’s tallest solar power tower at 262.44 metres.
The company said the total capacity under commercial operation has reached 517 MW in a disclosure published on the Saudi stock exchange.
The $4.29 billion Phase 4 is being developed by Noor Energy 1, a special purpose vehicle owned 51 percent by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), 25 percent by ACWA Power and 24 percent by China’s Silk Road Fund.
Shanghai Electric was awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of Phase 4 in April 2018. In November, the company had announced that Trough Unit 1 of Noor Energy 1’s Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) facility has started supplying power to the grid.
