Bahrain's Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs (EWA) has received proposals from seven bidders for its 72-megawatt (MW) multi-site, grid-tied, solar photovoltaic power project.

The project, which is being procured on Build-Own-Operate-Maintain (BOOM) basis for a 20-year period, comprises rooftop, ground-mounted, car park solar power systems and electric vehicle charging stations at Bahrain International circuit, University of Bahrain, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority and Al Dana Amphitheatre.

Five proposals were accepted while two were suspended, according to a Bahrain Tender Board notice.

Proposals that were accepted included Alpha Energy Generations Co (BHD .016); DEFT Contractors (BHD .016); Tarsheed Energy Consultation and Services (BHD .018); Yellow Door Energy (BHD 17.890 with condition) and Safeer For Renewable Energy (BHD .025)

The suspended proposals were from Oak Energy and Infrastructure Solutions (BHD .018) and Green Innova Trading (BHD 21.211).

The tariff units weren’t mentioned in the tender board notice but globally followed format is ‘bid amount/kilowatt hours (kWh).’

In September 2022, Zawya Projects had reported that EWA is likely to award the multi-site project in the first quarter of 2023.

The Request for Proposal was issued on 17 August 2022 while the bids were opened on 26 December 2022.
