Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) announced on Tuesday that it has selected the consortium of Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios (Cobra) and International Water Distribution Co. Ltd (Tawzea) as the preferred bidder for the 100,000 cubic metres (m3) per day Taif Independent Sewage Treatment Project (ISTP) located near the Taif city in the Makkah Province.

The preferred bidder will be responsible for the development, design, financing, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the ISTP for a period of 25 years, according to statement posted on SWPC's website.

The Cobra- Tawzea consortium had submitted the lowest levelised cost tariff of 107.9 halala/m3, which was eight times lower than the second lowest bid of 116.28 halala/m3 submitted by the Aqualia-AlKhorayef consortium, according to statement posted on SWPC website last month.

Metito- Mowah- Al Jomaih consortium submitted the third lowest bid of 149.27 halala/m3 with Orascom- Miahona consortium's bid of 150.48 halala/m3 coming fourth.

Ten companies/consortia were prequalified to bid for the project out of the 15 that had submitted Statements of Qualification in March.

Mizuho Bank is the lead and financial advisor; White & Case is the legal advisor and WS Atkins & Partners Overseas Engineering Consultants is the technical advisor for the project.
