Backed by the high-level visits following the opening of the embassy in Muscat, Romanian companies expressed their intent to work with the Sultanate in a wide number of sectors, according to Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI).

Speaking to the Observer, Mircea Chitic , Charge D'Affairs, at the newly opened Embassy of Romania in Muscat, said that the areas of mutual cooperation would be infrastructure, minerals, tourism among many others.

"Romanian holdings and companies are ready to accompany Sultanate of Oman in this endeavour and to enhance the cooperation in key fields such as transport, agriculture and fisheries, energy, but also IT. Our expertise and knowledge can be of great relevance for the Omani development agenda in the backdrop of the Vision 2040," he said.

"The Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry is always welcome to newer bilateral relations with Romania and trade and industrial cooperation is mooted with the Romanian companies," said Engineer Ridha bin Juma Saleh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the OCCI.

Mircea continued that a number of business visits and economic forums by both countries are currently in the pipeline which would further advance the economic cooperation by exploring new ways and means of promoting the shared interests. Plans are afoot to further enhance cooperation and exchanges in the areas of oil, green energy, railway, ports, and electric grids infrastructures.

"The new diplomatic mission in Muscat can boost tourism, bilateral visits by delegations of Omani businessmen and entrepreneurs and assure the possibilities of Omani students to study at Romanian Universities," he added.

Sultanate of Oman and Romania established diplomatic relations in 1974 and the first embassy of the South Eastern European country was established in 2018 following which an official visit at the Prime Minister level was organised by the Sultanate of Oman on that occasion.

"Over the past 48 years, our bilateral relations have witnessed a considerable development thanks to the common values and commitment of our countries," he said, adding that both will continue the process of building, consolidating, harmonising and developing bilateral relations and will assess the opportunities and interests of both parties in the process of boosting relations in various spheres of cooperation.
