Ras Al Khaimah Municipality (RAK Municipality) announced on Wednesday that it issued its first Barjeel green building permit in the emirate for the construction of a private villa.

Barjeel, which is targeted at new buildings in RAK, is the most important programme of the RAK Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Strategy 2040, established under the patronage of Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

The municipality said in a press statement that UAE national Sultan Abdulaziz Al Awaadi also received a full discount on the final building permit fee as part of the incentive scheme connected with the initial adoption of Barjeel.

It said Al Awaadi was felicitated for his initiative by RAK Municipality Director General Munther Mohammed bin Shekar and Chief Executive Officer of Technical Affairs Sector Abdullah Samhan.

Al Saqr Engineering Consulting will oversee the project and ensure compliance to Barjeel, the statement added.

The strategy targets 30 percent energy savings, 20 percent water savings, and 20 percent from renewable energy by 2040, with Barjeel contributing the largest share of energy and water savings.
