Saudi Arabia has shortlisted companies bidding for four solar power projects which have a combined production capacity of 1,200 megawatts (MW), a local newspaper said on Tuesday. 

A number of local and foreign firms submitted bids for the IPP (Independent Power Producers) projects in the second quarter of 2021, the Arabic language daily Aleqtisadiah said, citing official sources. 

The Saudi Energy Ministry has shortlisted a number of bidders for “category A” and ”B”, which comprise two solar projects each, the paper said.. 

“The Energy Ministry has shortlisted bidding companies for the four projects, which are the third phase of renewable energy projects undertaken by Saudi Arabia as part of a strategy to expand the use of sustainable energy sources,” it said. 

The four projects comprise a 700-MW plant in the Central town of Al-Rass, a 300-MW  plant in the outskirts of the capital Riyadh, another 80-MW plant in Riyadh, and a 120-MW project in the South-Central town of Al-Aflaj, the report added. 

It noted that three bids were submitted for each of the four projects, which were tendered in the second quarter of 2020
