Saudi Arabia granted permits for 903 industrial projects in 2020 with total investments of around 23.5 billion Saudi riyals ($6.3 billion), according to official data.
The permits boosted the total number of manufacturing units in the Gulf Kingdom to 9,681, some of which are under construction, a report by the Industry and Mineral Resources Ministry said.
It showed 515 plants licensed in 2020 began operating in the same year and that they cover light to medium industries.
A breakdown showed Saudi Arabia now has around 951 chemical factories, 1,074 food production plants, 1,162 units producing metals, 323 electrical appliances factories and hundreds of units producing machinery and equipment, food, paper and furniture.
