The Gulf state of Oman will issue tenders for a new industrial zone in the Northwestern Ibri city within the next two months, a local newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Designs for the new zone have been completed and tenders will be issued once the project is given the final nod by the competent authorities, the Arabic language daily Alwatan said, citing official sources.

The decision was taken during a meeting between Najib Al-Rawas, governor of Al-Dhahirah Province, of which Irbil is the capital, and Hilal Al-Husani, CEO of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn).

"They discussed the project after its final designs were completed and agreed on procedures to issue tenders within two months," the report said.

Omani officials said in 2020 there are plans to build industrial zones in various parts of the country within an economic diversification strategy.
