Iraq's Ministry of Planning has started techno-economic feasibility study, survey and detailed design for a fourth ring road in the city of Baghdad.
Planning ministry spokesperson Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi told Zawya Projects that the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities had set aside 76,400 billion Iraqi dinars ($52 million) in its 2021 investment budget for the feasibility study.
Al-Hindawi quoted Planning Minister Khaled Battal Al-Najm as saying the ring road project will relieve traffic congestion in the capital’s streets, and catalyse new developments in areas it will pass through.
The ring road is part of the integrated development strategy 2030 for Baghdad which also includes the Baghdad Elevated Train project, and new bridges over the Tigris River.
