Iraq has approved around 236 billion Iraqi dinars ($160 million) for road maintenance and expansion projects in the capital Baghdad with the aim of easing congestions, the official Iraq Al-Sabah newspaper reported on Sunday.

The projects include the construction of three new major bridges and new roads, as well as maintenance and expansion of existing roads in various areas of the city, it said, quoting Baghdad Municipality Director Alaa Maan.

“The projects include building three large bridges in different areas, the development of three key streets, expansion of some roads and extending green areas,” Maan said.

“This is just the first phase of a plan to expand roads in the capital to ease daily congestions...we will invite competent companies to bid for these projects,” he added.
