GE Gas Power said on Monday that it has signed an agreement with Oman’s centralised utilities company Marafiq to build, own and operate (BOO) a power plant with a capacity of up to 80 megawatts in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.
GE Gas Power said in a statement that Rural Areas Electricity Company (Tanweer) will purchase the power generated at the new plant under a power purchase agreement it has entered into with Marafiq.
The company said it will commission the plant in five months’ time and operate it for a minimum of three years, until the area is connected to the main 400 kilovolts (kV) grid.
The gas fuelled plant, equipped with four mobile TM2500 aeroderivative gas turbines, will replace power currently generated by diesel generators in Duqm, and reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90 thousand tonnes per year, the press statement said.
