French construction consultancy firm Egis announced that it has completed its supervisory consultancy services contract with Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) for the Salalah Independent Water Project (IWP). 

OPWP had entered into a 20-year Water Purchase Agreement (WPA) for the greenfield Salalah IWP with a consortium of ACWA Power, Veolia Middle East and Dhofar International Development & Investment Holding Company (DIDIC). 

Egis said in a statement that its mandate was to support OPWP during construction to ensure that the Project Company fulfilled its obligations under the WPA by providing Supervisory Consultancy Services and HSE audits. 

The contract was signed in January 2019 and the works were finalised and handed over in March 2021. 

“All the Plant Acceptance Tests were successfully performed and concluded during the month of March 2021,” the statement said. 

Salalah IWP was implemented under a Build-Own-Operate framework and included Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) plant with a total output capacity of 113,650 cubic metres per day (m3/day) in nominal conditions and 120,000 m3/ day during exigency periods. 

Egis said it is supporting OPWP for another IWP project located in Sharqiyah, which is expected to be completed in July 2021. 

OPWP had awarded the 80,000 m3/ day Sharqiyah IWP to a consortium of JGC Corporation (Japan), United Infrastructure Development Company (Oman) and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (South Korea) in December 2017, according to a statement posted by consortium’s financial advisor Synergy Consulting’s website.
