Iraq has awarded a $14-million project to an Egyptian company for the reconstruction of a major bridge that was destroyed during the war, according to an official statement. 

The Department of Roads and Bridges in the Northern Nineveh Governorate signed the contract on Monday with Nasr General Contracting Company for the rebuilding of the bridge in its provincial capital of Mosul, the Department said in a statement carried by Shafaq News and other Iraqi publications on Tuesday. 

The project will be completed within 15 months and is being funded by the World Bank as part of financial aid to the Arab country for the reconstruction of Mosul that suffered massive devastation during the hostilities. 

The statement said the 768-metre causeway links two parts of the city across Tigris River, adding that it is the capital’s fifth bridge to be rebuilt after the war.
