Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) said on Sunday that it has inaugurated six electricity transmission substations with a total investment of over 1.1 billion UAE dirhams ($299.5 million) to its grid in the four months from the beginning of 2021. 
 
The utility said in a press statement these substations were completed amid the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
 
It said the substations include a 400 kilovolt (kV) substation at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park with a conversion capacity of 2,020 megavolt-amperes (MVA) and five 132 kV substations with a conversion capacity of 750 MVA to cater to Al Satwa; Palm Deira; Jebel Ali Industrial Zone; and Umm Al Daman areas.
 
DEWA MD and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said with the new stations, the total value of DEWA's investments in electricity transmission to date stands at 8.8 billion dirhams ($2.4 billion), including 2 billion dirhams ($544.5 million) for 400 kV transmission projects and 6.8 billion dirhams ($1.85 billion) for 132 kV projects.

Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power added that DEWA has 24 400kV substations as of 30 April with another three under construction while 132kV substations reached 312 with 39 under construction.

Last year, DEWA had built 20 new electricity substations at a total cost of 2.6 billion dirhams ($708 million).
