UK-based Impact Oil & Gas has launched a multi-well drilling programme offshore Namibia to assess the hydrocarbon reserves within the Venus discovery, a light oil and associated gas field, and their flow potential into adjacent blocks.

The exploration campaign will include the drilling and re-entry of four wells in Block 2913B and 2912, leveraging the Tungsten Explorer drillship and the Deepsea Mira drill stem test from the end of February 2023, the Africa-focused exploration company said in a statement.

The data from the programme will influence French oil major TotalEnergies’ planned development of the Venus discovery from as early as mid-2023 and the production center for Nara–1x well in Block 2912.

TotalEnergies will invest $300 million in exploring Namibian basins this year, primarily the Orange Basin, African Energy Chamber said in a statement.

Impact Oil & Gas owns an 18.89 percent stake in Block 2913B, which comprises the Venus discovery in the Orange Basin offshore Namibia together with TotalEnergies (40 percent), QatarEnergy (10 percent) and Namcor (30 percent).
